Jillian Joy is bringing her Butterfly Sleeve Workshops back to TORONTO!

ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE

Join Jillian Joy for an afternoon of (re)connecting with the Filipino culture through this creative workshop exploring the iconic butterfly sleeves of the terno, otherwise known as the national dress of the Philippines!

WHAT TO EXPECT…

We’ll explore the history & evolutiuon of the terno, practice our hand stitching on a half-scale muslin sleeve, and sew a full scale silk sleeve that you’ll be able to take home framed! In this session, we’ll also go over pattern drafting a terno sleeve and discuss applications including finishings and fabric choice which will equip you to continue working with the butterfly sleeve on your own, after the workshops together!

No sewing experience? no problem!

All skill levels are welcome to join us! While the workshop is structured to equip experienced sewers to continue working with the terno on their own after the session, it’s also structured to be a fun, meaningful experience for all skill levels. Some sewing experience is useful, however all sewing will be done with basic hand stitches and each step will be taught and demonstrated.

the finer details…

  • This is an in person workshop that will last between 2.5 - 3 hours

  • The session will take place at our very own studio, where we produce all of our ready to wear and custom ternos!

  • All materials will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own notebook and pen if you’d like to take notes

  • While sewing skills will be useful, no experience is necessary! All sewing will be done by hand and all techniques will be taught and demonstrated

  • The recommended age to attend is 15 years and older.
